Social media has trained shoppers to connect with the story of a brand told across multiple engagements. A popup with a discount just isn&#8217;t enough to capture an email anymore. Otherwise go deeper into deduction with another video or a compelling image and written story panel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, you close the deal. If you want to increase your conversion rate, then you\u2019ll want them to add products to their cart and check out.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whatever action you want your customers to take, however, you can\u2019t simply just tell them to do so and expect they follow suit.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Take the two popup examples below that are both trying to collect email addresses.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1860\" height=\"482\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smartrmail.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/popup-design-1.png\" alt=\"popup design inspiration\" class=\"wp-image-6263\" style=\"width:930px;height:241px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Which one do you think is more effective?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the example on the left makes a vague promise of coupons in return for signing up, the popup on the right provides a much more specific and enticing offer which clearly communicates the value of signing up.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The more enticing your offer and the better you clearly communicate the value a customer will receive from whatever action you want them to take, the better your popup conversion rate will be.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Don\u2019t forget about your CTA button<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>With such a bland call-to-action of \u201csign up for coupons\u201d, it\u2019s not surprising that the popup button is simply \u201csubmit\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What is a bit more surprising however is despite the popup on the right having a decent headline and copy, the call-to-action button is simply \u201csubscribe now\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coming up with an engaging call-to-action button that reiterates your offer, like in the example below, is one of those final touches that will make your popup more effective.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/XfXnDurNqJlRgcvURTJiKE9Ze5dgsk4aS6xBK7RkGnJgcN8VGqL3ukHestpout_JJ_TKnYrLwCAPGrSpTyDsF6zDWjdTQUhK0B2NsuqL6iuJNJwZMwsI3E-WTvKi1CJ-KdCuv6G4\" alt=\"popup design on landing page\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3) Use imagery to attract visitors\u2019 attention<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Popups are effective because they are attention-grabbing. So it makes sense that the most effective popups will be the ones that do the best job of attracting attention.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And one of the best ways to attract people\u2019s attention is with imagery. Especially in commerce.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In terms of what imagery works best, here are a few ideas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Images of your products<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>People who represent your target audience or ideal customer&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Showing your products being used<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The popup on Lindsay Letters\u2019 Shopify store is a good example of these points in action.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/Mj8mNAHZUwGQAt7ZLKmzJiHgwPFv2FSXMZPm3Yp--Jm1MZMFGFoft_H8wU9XTpetAGxU_hHUqdSl_oC2dUtfWHfmWUtlcD1rrKRjbrJVbQsfcGIBdq68bgwWf0qk5NMJ5Vvfjwbw\" alt=\"popup design that attracts visitors attention\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If you decide not to use imagery, the other route to creating an eye-catching design is to play around with other elements of your design. In other words, it should be close to the opposite color of the rest of your popup window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This makes the most important element of your popup stand out and draws people\u2019s attention.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The popup above from La Colombe is a good example of this in action with a yellow button on a blue background.
