{"id":7076,"date":"2021-09-16T21:04:36","date_gmt":"2021-09-16T11:04:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.smartrmail.com\/blog\/?p=7076"},"modified":"2021-09-16T21:04:39","modified_gmt":"2021-09-16T11:04:39","slug":"ios-15-last-minute-guide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.smartrmail.com\/blog\/ios-15-last-minute-guide\/","title":{"rendered":"iOS 15: Last-Minute Guide to Prepare Your Store"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Apple has officially announced that users will be able to start upgrading to iOS 15 from September 20th.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s only a matter of days.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And because <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smartrmail.com\/blog\/ios-15-announcement\/\">iOS 15 brings massive changes to email marketing<\/a>, there is precious little time left to prepare for these changes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, in that spirit, we\u2019ve put together this last-minute guide to how you can best prepare your email marketing for the iOS 15 changes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But first, let\u2019s quickly recap what the changes are.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is changing with iOS 15?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve already outlined what the changes iOS 15 is bringing to email marketing are and what their implications are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smartrmail.com\/blog\/ios-15-announcement\/\">in an earlier post<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the long and short is that email open rates will no longer be reliable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words, email open rates are not going to be around much longer (at least in the form we\u2019re currently used to). And this has a few implications you should be aware of.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Firstly, as open rates are currently the go-to metric to judge how engaged your email subscribers are, you are going to need to start looking at different metrics.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This also has implications for maintaining a good, clean email list.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is because it\u2019s currently advisable to remove customers who never (or hardly ever) open your emails from your email list. Doing this maintains an active and engaged email list which means your emails are less likely to be marked as spam.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, because this will soon no longer be possible, what are some things you can do right now to best prepare?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Things you should be doing now<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smartrmail.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/email-metrics.png\" alt=\"email metrics\" class=\"wp-image-7077\" width=\"307\" height=\"265\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1) Start benchmarking your other metrics<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Because open rates are going away, it\u2019s important to start benchmarking your other email metrics. Especially your clickthrough rate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the biggest changes iOS 15 will bring to email marketing is elevating clickthrough rates above open rates and the defacto standard metric to determine engagement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is because after someone opening your email, them clicking on a link within your campaign is the next best signal we can get that shows someone is engaged.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And if you start looking at what your clickthrough rate has been like with previous campaigns, you\u2019ll be able to immediately tell how your future emails are performing when open rates are no longer reliable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Basically, if your clickthrough rate dips, then that\u2019s a sign that customers aren\u2019t engaging with your email content as well as they used to. But hopefully you\u2019ll notice clickthrough rates increase which shows your campaigns are performing better.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The other metric you should also look at is sales.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That is, how many sales are being generated after you send an email newsletter or campaign.
